My Neighbor Totoro is a 1988 Japanese animated fantasy film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki and animated by Studio Ghibli for Tokuma Shoten. It stars the voices of Noriko Hidaka, Chika Sakamoto and Hitoshi Takagi, and focuses on two young sisters and their interactions with friendly wood spirits in postwar rural Japan.

Sisters Mei and Satsuke move into a new house and discover that a nearby forest is inhabited by creatures called totoros. They end up becoming friends with their oldest, and spend most of their time with him, as their mother is in the hospital and their father goes out to teach. At the same time that he shows them some truths of life, totoro shows them a fantastic world
