The magnificent Christchurch Cathedral was founded circa. 1028 after King Sitric Silkenbeard returned from a pilgrimage to Rome. Built on high ground overlooking the Viking settlement of Wood Quay the cathedral contains the tomb of Strongbow the Norman warlord. It is also home to "Tom and Jerry" the mummified remains of a cat and mouse whose bodies were discovered in the back of the organ.
